Kristal and Jonathan’s Grand Junction Garden Wedding

I first met Kristal after an epic powder day in Telluride. I was looking for photography work and I clomped into the magazine offices where she was the lead designer. Telluride being a ski town, I saw no problem showing up to a business meeting in my ski boots. Fortunately, the editor and publisher of the magazine didn’t have a problem with that either and we had a very productive meeting that let to a long-lasting professional relationship. Over the next several years Kristal and I worked together on many projects and she made my work shine in dozens of issues of the magazine. I was fortunate to have such a talented designer to work with and I was honored when Kristal asked me to photograph her wedding.

As a freelance graphic designer, Kristal works regularly with many talented photographers and she gets to know their work fairly intimately. That is why it was so awesome that she chose me to illustrate her wedding day. She knew how great my work is but she knew where I was prone to make a mistake. She also had dozens of other great photographers to choose from but to her, I was the most talented and best qualified!

Kristal met her husband, Jonathan at a bar in Fruita, Colorado. Jonathan had just moved the the area and Kristal was the first woman he talked to in the first bar he visited in his new home town. The two dated for more than six years before Jonathan proposed. When he did, Kristal was floored!

They held their outdoor ceremony and reception at a quaint bed and breakfast conveniently located in North Grand Junction. The guest list included friends, family and colleagues. The ceremony was heartfelt, drawing tears from the bride, groom and members of the audience. An open bar and catered dinner followed along with dancing, laughter, toasts and lots of hugs and congratulations. Many of the writers and editors that I had worked with on the magazine years ago were in attendance and it was nice to be able to visit with them once the bride and groom departed…to sing karaoke at a local bar!
