Wedding Year in Review – 2018-2019

2018 was so busy that before I knew it, it was 2019 and I needed a break. In taking that break I only photographed one wedding in 2019 so I’ve included it in the same Year in Review.

As a photo editor, selecting a year in pictures collection is one of my most favorite projects. Not only does it give me an opportunity to reflect on my accomplishments over the past year, but it is an entirely different process than editing a collection of wedding photos for a newly-wed couple or for a publication.

When I am editing to identify the highlights of a year’s worth of wedding photography, nearly all of the focus turns to the artistic merit of each individual image. There is very little consideration given to the detail and nuance that only matters to a select group of people involved in a specific wedding. In photography school we referred to what I look for as the “SEA of life.” SEA being an acronym for spontaneity, emotion, and action.

The images in this particular year in review may not always represent the best photos from each wedding, but rather they represent why I feel so fortunate to have a successful career as a wedding photographer. I love spending a Saturday photographing the stunning high-alpine views of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, but I am thrilled by the challenge of making images using the tacky carpets found in poorly-lit hotel ballrooms. I am honored to bear witness to the intimate connections formed between people who love each other; whether it’s a young couple who were high school sweethearts or a mixed family of six whose parents found each other on Tinder. It is always special to me when I see a truly proud father, a ray of sunlight streaming through a grapevine, or even a lick and an oddly opportune moment. I am extremely grateful for all of the little moments and grand adventures that, as a wedding photographer, I am invited into. Most of all I am grateful for all of the amazing individuals that I got to know for their wedding day!

I hope you enjoy looking at this collection of images as much as I did making them. For more wedding photography by Barton Glasser please check out West Slope Weddings. You can also see more from these weddings, couples, and venues using the links below.
